Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What if I have never ridden or driven before?

A. That's okay. We welcome students of all ages who are new to riding or driving. Take our Introduction Lesson and find out how fun it is to learn the basics of either recreational or competitive horsemanship.

Q. What should I expect at the first lesson?

A. We require every individual to take the Introduction Lesson. During this informative lesson, students will be asked to do various tasks in order to determine their skill level. This lesson will introduce the student to our facilities, horses and staff. During this lesson, we will also teach the importance of proper Illahee etiquette & safety.

Q. What's next after the Introduction Lesson?

A. It is mandatory for students classified as beginners to continue in private lessons in order to learn proper skills while being in a safe environment. After the Introduction Lesson, we will consult with the adult student or child’s parent to determine an appropriate program with skill and age in mind.

Q. What do I wear if I have never ridden or driven before?

A. We recommend that new students, woman/girls, wear leggings or stretch pants for riding. Long hair must be pulled back in a low ponytail. Men/boys should wear a comfortable pant, NO baggy pants, fitted shirt or polo tucked in accompanied by hard-soled shoes/boots with a 1/2" heel, no hiking boots. Chaps, and/or half chaps may be used for your initial lesson. When you sign up for lessons, it is then mandatory that every student wear breeches/jodhpurs, boots, helmet and gloves.
